Conflicted

Conflicted

I’m conflicted. Originally, I had a topic in mind that I wanted to blog about. However, it is not motivational. I actually wanted to blog about, “Can Men and Women be just friends?” However, I’m very hesitant because any time I share my own opinions on topics such as this (or any generalization for that matter), I usually offend some of my readers.

I know it is my own blog, and I should be able to blog whatever I want; but one of my friends recently said this to me:

“I don’t understand why you would blog about something that would separate people. If it doesn’t bring value to others, why are you writing it?”

I thought deeply about what she said, and I do agree. However, at the same time, I also want to blog about whatever I want. It’s very conflicting because currently I have a lot more readers than before (due to my translations).

In the past, it would be surprising for me to hit even over fifty views per post. But now, since I am getting hundreds of views daily, I feel more pressured to put content that is more appropriate and useful.

Although I am still very into the motivational thing, there are times when I feel like I just keep repeating myself in a different way. Thus, there are times I want to switch it around and blog about my personal views (For example: My view on the Paris shooting, my view on gay marriage, and so on).

Sometimes, it can be very difficult because while I want to share my own opinion, I do not want to upset anyone.

It’s kind of like the saying, “With greater power, comes greater responsibilities.”

I have to take responsibilities for what I write.

What are your thoughts? And what type of topics would you personally prefer reading about? Let me know in the comments section below.

I just want to share all my knowledge, ideas, and experiences with the world. It makes me happy to know that I can inspire others.

  1. Aw, I actually wanted to read about what you would have originally written about, Grace. But it’s okay that you feel conflicted. I feel that way sometimes too about what I write in my posts, but you already know that I don’t care anymore and I just speak my mind when I blog even though I do have a fair amount of readers too. My stance is: it’s your blog; write what you want. If they don’t like it, that’s their problem. If they like it, that’s their preference. At the end of the day, you still get readers just like how a celebrity still gets haters and fans no matter what they do.

It also depends on your “mission statement” of your blog. Is your blog not only a place for readers to get translations but also a place where they read motivational stuff that is appropriate all the time? Or is your blog a place for readers to get translations and also get to know the read ‘you’ by reading your true comments and opinions? Once you find out what the goal of your blog is, I think your answer will be more clear. 🙂

I do appreciate that you are very considerate towards your readers though. 🙂

And good job posting today while it’s still Monday! 😛

    1. Aww, thanks Karen. I guess I feel bad if my post has no value, and separates people. I think for your case, you’re stating your own opinions based on your own experience at a restaurant (usually). Since you are also a food blogger, it makes sense for you to rate and judge the restaurant (food, atmosphere, service, etc). Whereas for me, I purposely find topics to cause debate? (if you know what I mean) So it makes me feel a bit bad…

Haha. But I’m probably just going to write what I want to, because like you said, I do want to share the real “me” 😛

Thank you for the encouragement. ❤

      1. Yes, but sometimes the things I say in my blog also offends some people too lol. If I were to be neutral about everything I write, then no one would complain about anything, but as you know, I do have received quite a few complainers and hater comments.

I think you simply bring up and write about about “controversial” topics that people have very strong opinions about. There’s nothing wrong with discussing these topics. It’s a problem when people are refusing to agree to disagree that it can become ugly.

        And you’re welcome! 🙂

  2. hmmmmmmm well there is that saying the only good news is no news at all. You cannot please everyone. Don’t be Atlas and carry the weight of the entire planet on your back. Just like your friend has an opinion don’t forget that you yourself are entitled to one too. In my point of view as long as you the writer and author of the work doesn’t cross a line in terms of showing viciousness and malice towards a certain something I think it would be okay to blog about said topic such as “Can Men and Women be just friends?” . In my opinion I do not find it offensive but informative and eye opening. It stirs up peoples thought processes to give rise to an idea that maybe has never occurred to the reader. I suppose if you are very concerned about segregation perhaps you can just put a note in the end to please refrain from being too too harsh on the comment section or please sugar coat it.

      1. oh i have many topics in mind.. It’s just that I’ve been a bit lazy lately. I am still unsure of what my blog will be centered about. I feel that finding that out to be important into the growth process on my writing. At the very least my blog looks somewhat like a blog.

  3. I can understand the conflict that you have given the situation but the fact that you wrote about this conflict seems like your intuition is telling you to go ahead and write this article. I would. What’s wrong with offering a little bit of everything? Those who are interested in the translations can read them, those who are interested in motivational articles can stick to reading those articles, and those who are open to conversation on your views can engage in those. A little bit of everything for everyone haha. Follow your gut instinct my friend. Good luck 🙂

  4. Write whatever you feel. It’s your blog and people will either read it or not. I wouldn’t mind reading your thoughts on can men and women be just friends.

  5. Enjoy writing whatever you feel. I also wouldn’t mind either way also. 🙂

Also any possible thought of watching a new documentary called HEALING VOICES on the premiering date of April 29,2016? That documentary deals will mental illnesses, while it could be a interesting “controversial” discussion article to read and broaden the mind.

    1. Ohh! I haven’t heard of the documentary, but I definitely wouldn’t mind watching it and then blogging about it! Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll take a look if it releases in Canada!
