Topics: Simu Liu, racist girl, and Minari

Hey guys!

I’m back with another blog post! I’m really on a roll these days, aren’t I? 😛 (Just kidding).

Recently, I went on another podcast! It’s called Asian Movie Club, and you can find it on spotify and other podcast platforms.

Asian Movie Club is a podcast that is hosted by my friends Kyle and Robin. They talk about film, music, pop culture and more.

They have just recently begun so I’m featured in episode 2! Please do give it a listen. It is quite mind-boggling.

We talked about Simu Liu deleting an old tweet of him calling out Mark Wahlberg on his racist assault towards two Vietnamese men back when he was 16.

Simu and Wahlberg are going to be co-stars on an upcoming film. Naturally, it made sense for him to remove it. Otherwise, wouldn’t it be super awkward if fans/haters bring it up? (They still brought it up anyway, but that’s beside the point)

Do you think it was wrong of Simu to have removed the tweet? What would you have done if you were his situation?

We also discussed about people being subconsciously racist. There was an incident where a girl had accidentally left her phone inside an Uber, but had assumed it was stolen. She targeted a black teenager who happened to be around her vicinity and accused him of stealing her phone. Continue reading “Topics: Simu Liu, racist girl, and Minari”

BLM: We want to see change

By now, most of us have probably seen the clip of George Floyd suffocating under the policeman’s knee.

When I saw it, I was disgusted, infuriated and heartbroken.

He clearly said he couldn’t breathe, yet instead of loosening his control, the policeman pressed down even harder.

The policeman was stopping blood flow and oxygen from going into his brain. Did it not occur to him that George could die?

George was UNARMED and couldn’t move at all. There were FOUR policemen on scene and ONE of him.

It’s unbelievable.

If he were trying to rob someone, or was committing a physical act, you could say the policeman needed to “restrain” him. But George was accused of spending a counterfeit bill.

He was already handcuffed. The force used against him was completely unnecessary.

A few days later, riots and protests began happening worldwide. I wasn’t surprised.

Enough is enough.

It’s just so sickening to see this happening again and again. I couldn’t help but wonder, why did George Floyd die? Why do the police think it is ok for them to act this way?

For years, police officers have been getting away with this sort of behaviour. It’s like they don’t have to be accountable for their actions.

I was watching a clip on facebook, and a black man was sharing what it was like to be black. There are so many things he has to constantly think about.

He has to make sure his hands are always visible. If they’re hidden, the cops might think he has a gun or weapon.

He has to make sure to keep enough distance between him and other people, so that they don’t feel uncomfortable. Continue reading “BLM: We want to see change”

Zootopia

zootopia

This is the first time I am writing a movie review. I never write movie reviews because, quite frankly, it doesn’t matter to me whether you watch the movie or not. If you want to, go ahead. If you don’t want to, that’s completely up to you.

I’m too lazy to write a post to convince someone to watch a movie. Haha.

However, I decided to write about Zootopia because the message is just too powerful and inspirational. I have to share!!

Judy Hopps is the main character of the story and this little bunny has big dreams for herself. Ever since she was a child, she aspired to be a cop.

The thing is, there has never been a bunny cop.

My thoughts on the Paris shooting

Paris

Disclaimer: This is purely my own opinions. I am not saying that my views are correct, but this is how I feel. Please do not take it personally.

When I found out about the terrorist attack in Paris on November 13th, I was so sad. All these innocent lives. Gone.

I feel so heartbroken even though it didn’t happen in my country, or to anyone related to me.

I thought about my friends and I, going to a concert. You know, just wanting to have a good time. Then, BOOM. Bloodshed everywhere. Dead bodies everywhere. Continue reading “My thoughts on the Paris shooting”
